Abstract
Speech acts is an interesting topic to study in pragmatics. There are three types of speech acts, namely locutionary act, illocutionary act, and perlocutionary act. In this study, it will only focus on illocutionary act using comics as the object of study.
The object of this research is the main character named Luffy in the comic "One Piece Wanokuni Arc". The purposes of this research is to (1) analyze the illocutionary speech acts i used by Luffy in the comic One Piece Wanokuni Arc. (2) the application of the Illocutionary Act function to the character Luffy in the One Piece Wanokuni Arc comic. The method used in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach using Searle's theory.
The research results found four types of illocutionary acts used by Luffy in the One Piece Wanokuni Arc comic. There are four types of illocutionary acts used by Luffy from 22 utterances. Among them are representative, directive, commissive and expressive. Representative is the speech act that Luffy uses the most to state a truth, namely 7 utterances. Directives are used by Luffy to carry out certain actions, namely in 6 utterances. Continued with commissives carried out by Luffy to make a promise or an offer, namely 5 utterances. Expressive represents 4 utterances in Luffy's speech which are used to express his psychological feelings.
Based on the results and discussion, it can be concluded that there are four types of illocutionary acts, namely representative, directive, commissive and expressive. Representatives have the highest intensity of functions such as referring to statements, emphasizing, providing information, and affirming. Directive with functions related to commands, warnings, notifying, ordering, requesting, and suggesting, Commissive with functions related to threats, promises, refusals, and contracts. Expressive with functions related to expressions of gratitude, praise, apology and thanks.
