Abstract
Feminism advocates for equal partnership between men and women, dismantling gender barriers and creating opportunities for women to thrive. In the era of industrialization, women were expected to work in various fields, such as batik workers, textile industry workers, farmers, and the exported female workforce. Feminism in public aims to create a society that values and respects women, recognizing their contributions and potential. Movies, especially Hollywood movies, have become important cultural artifacts, influencing cultures and worldviews. The Intern explores themes of feminism and gender equality in the workplace, challenging traditional gender roles and stereotypes. The study of feminist speech uses Emma Watson and Malala Yousafzai as data sources. This study aims to analyze Jules Austins feminist comments in the film "The Intern" from a speech act perspective, focusing on the illocutionary force and pragmatic significance associated with feminism. The objectives include recognizing and characterizing Austins speech acts. This research uses descriptive qualitative method to analyze Jules Austins Speech Acts about Feminism in the movie The Intern. This research aims to understand the speech acts of rejection used in the movie, focusing on themes, symbols, and language. Qualitative research helps identify patterns and themes that may not be immediately apparent from quantitative analysis, using Searles 1968 theory of refusal to explain the types and functions of speech acts that accommodate feminist speech. This study examines Jules Ostins feminist speech acts in the comedy-drama movie The Intern. This research reveals three types of speech acts: locution, illocution, and perlocution. There are 19 declarative locutions, 17 interrogative locutions, and 12 imperative locutions, totaling 48 data.
