AN ANALYSIS OF FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE FOUND IN SONG LYRICS OF THE ALBUM “gg bb xx” BY LANY

Sometimes people will face problems understanding the song’s meaning. One of the reasons is caused by the use of Figurative Language. Therefore, this study analyzes about figurative language found in LANY's song lyrics in the "gg bb xx" album. The objectives of this study are to analyze the types and meaning of figurative language, and to explain the function of figurative language, also to find out the most dominant of figurative language. This study applied descriptive qualitative method. The writer collected the data by reading the lyrics, retyping, collecting and printing the lyrics, and organizes it into various categories of figurative language in the song lyrics. Meanwhile, in this study, the writer analyzes song lyrics using method by Miles, Huberman, and Saldana (2014). In this study, the writer discusses about the problem by applying the theory of figurative language which is described by Perrine (2018).
The result of this study from the data shows that there are 5 personification, 3 simile, 6 hyperbole, 7 metaphor, 2 irony, 2 understatement, 3 paradox, 1 apostrophe, 1 metonymy, 1 allegory, and 5 symbol found in the "gg bb xx" album. The meaning of figurative language can be understood in the data analysis of figurative language. The functions of figurative language which are used in the song lyrics are to concrete the meaning in the brief compass, to give additional imagery, to give imaginative pleasure, and to add emotional intensity. In this study, the writer found 36 data. The most dominant types of figurative language with 12 songs is metaphor. Metaphor as the most dominant because powerful tools of figurative language that allow LANY to convey complex emotions, experiences, and ideas in a more relatable and evocative manner.
