An Analysis of Women's Struggle in The Great TV Series

ABSTRACT
This research analyzes the series The Great with the aim of identifying gender inequality and the struggle for women's existence in the context of media. This research aims to identify forms of gender inequality against women that occur in The Great TV Series as a reflection of real-world women's issues and to understand the forms of resistance carried out by female characters in realizing their existence.
This research using descriptive qualitative methods. The researcher uses journal, internet and also use note-taking techniques to collect the data. The main data source in this research was taken from the television series The Great which was studied using Simone de Beauvoir's existentialist feminist approach.
The result is identified the types of gender inequality present in the series, including stereotyping of women, subordination of women, objectification of women, and sexual harassment. In addition, this research explores how female characters in the series struggle against gender inequality to build their existence by being able to work, women’s intellectual, rejecting of subordination, and women freedom self-actualize.
The conclusion of this research is that the researcher found four types of gender inequality and women’s existence. Subordination of women and objectification of women is the type that dominates all types of gender inequality in the series. Meanwhile, Women’s intellectual is the type that dominates all types of women’s existence in the series The Great.
